New Forest Painters Exhibition 2025

This year’s New Forest Painters exhibition was an outstanding success. Across the two-day showcase  including a vibrant private view launch.  Visitors filled the space with enthusiasm and generous support. All ten exhibiting artists agreed it was a highly worthwhile and inspiring event.

Timed perfectly alongside the Lyndhurst Scarecrow Trail, the exhibition became part of a lively seasonal celebration in the village, drawing new audiences to explore original New Forest art.

A rich variety of themes, techniques, and perspectives were represented.  Each artist bringing their individual style while celebrating the New Forest.

From the mythic and superbly executed acrylics of Courtney Leggett, to the beautifully refined portraiture of Sue Kerrigan-Harris, there was art to connect with every viewer.

Richard Tratt presented a wonderful collection of oils, capturing the ever-changing character of the Forest through the seasons. His winter snowscape, with ponies foraging beneath icy drifts, conveyed atmosphere and movement with remarkable skill.

Hilary Tratt’s watercolours portrayed the colours and grace of native and migrating birdlife with impeccable accuracy and charm.

Pam Baker’s expressive, location-inspired paintings offered atmospheric studies of light and colour  gently drawing the viewer in to appreciate their subtleties.

Jenny Pitt’s highly observed oils on canvas depicted beloved Forest wildlife and the twisting silhouettes of ancient oak trees, combining realism with a strong sense of place.

A tribute to our dear friend and founder of the New Forest Painters the late Barry Peckham, fondly remembered and missed by many.

Barry Miles exhibited sophisticated and expertly composed watercolours, exquisitely toned landscapes and scenes that many visitors recognised and admired. His accompanying sketchbooks demonstrated the depth of his draughtsmanship and creative process.

Peter Frost’s plein air oils showcased his deep knowledge and longstanding passion for the region, a passion shared through his artistic practice, conservation work, and expertise as a former Verderer of the Forest.

Janet Langford’s smaller works in acrylic and watercolour captivated audiences with their sensitivity and detail. Her thoughtfully chosen subjects offer unique viewpoints of the Forest and are created with exceptional dedication.

As for Alan Langford, his paintings continue to honour the heritage, culture, and equestrian traditions of the New Forest, particularly the lives and histories of its Romani communities. His commitment to preserving these stories through oils and watercolours remains a defining and celebrated part of his artistic contribution.

Congratulations go to Barry and Richard for jointly winning the best in show on the private view evening and Congratulations to Kim Thompson for winning the bottle of wine!
