Pam Baker

Pam Baker

Pam is an oil painter, inspired by the forest and the sea.

Early Life

Pam Baker grew up in the New Forest, spending her childhood surrounded by the natural beauty of the forest, shoreline, and open skies. Painting and drawing have always been a source of joy for her, forming the foundation of a lifelong artistic passion.

Artistic Style

Pam’s work is rooted in plein-air painting, where she responds directly to the changing light, colour, and atmosphere of the landscape. She enjoys exploring a range of mediums — including oils, water-based oils, acrylics and pastels — allowing her to express the Forest and the Solent in both subtle and dynamic ways.

Process

Much of Pam’s work is created on location, often painted quickly and intuitively to capture the fleeting effects of light. Whether standing among the trees of the New Forest or observing the shifting colours of the Solent, she embraces the challenge of painting outdoors. A favourite viewpoint is her beach hut at Calshot, where she studies the ever-changing reflections and movement of water.

Connection to the Forest

Having lived both in the New Forest and Wales, Pam draws inspiration from the landscapes that have shaped her life. The Forest’s trees, streams and open spaces continue to influence her painting, just as the dramatic coastline fuels her love of seascapes. Returning to the New Forest reconnected her with the light, textures and colours she has always cherished.

Reflection

Pam hopes her paintings convey the immediacy and freshness of the scenes that inspire her — the movement of water, the shifting sky and the quiet charm of familiar places. She aims to share the sense of peace and delight that plein-air painting brings her.

Exhibitions

Pam has exhibited locally at venues including St Barbe Museum, Lymington, and The Red House Museum, Christchurch and at the New Forest painters exhibition.
